Chapter 1

Johnny Blade’s philosophy of banking had been simple, until he met the real world.

His banking job had taught him how to recruit, develop and nurture a client who had money to invest. Who the client was and how he got his fortune was of no concern to him.

His job as he saw it, with over a year of banking experience under his belt, was to offer his best financial advice to his customers, and that was all. It kept the great wheels of the economy humming at maximum efficiency. The less meddling with the system, the more prosperity for all.

It was a snug little philosophy, and he adored it.

He looked at his reflection in his company’s brass nameplate in the elevator lobby and straightened his coat collar and tie. He was a handsome twenty-five-year-old with nicely groomed brown hair and a whiff of sophistication lent him by a respected East Coast family steeped in old money. A year at the headquarters of American International Bank had given him the final polish, the firm handshake, the unswerving gaze.

He pushed the up button and the elevator opened at once.

He took a deep breath and stepped in.

Young Johnny Blade commands the heights of finance at a slick California bank. One day, his boss calls him into the office with a new assignment: find a stolen fortune in Europe. He goes there with confidence, until he stumbles into the largest financial mess Europe has faced since the Second World War. To make matters worse, murder and deceit follow him every step of the way as he tries to sniff out the stolen billions. A spicy love affair complicates the levels of deceit, but opens the shadowy back doors of international finance to him. The more he learns, the more mysterious and dangerous the mission becomes, until his very life is on the line.
